Local gay wedding to be filmed for C4Two Clevedon brides will be walking down the aisle on the 20th June in one of the area's first gay weddings.

Mel Bryant, aged 35, and Michelle Miles, aged 48, are tying the knot in a civil partnership ceremony at Walton Park Hotel in front of their family and friends. It is the first partnership ceremony to be held at the hotel in Wellington Terrace, Clevedon, and Mel and Michelle are also being filmed on their big day by Channel 4s Cutting Edge team for a programme about births deaths and marriages on the longest day of the year.

Mel's dad will be walking her down the aisle, while Michelle's sister will be taking on the role of 'best woman' and escorting Michelle to Mel's side in front of the registrar.

Mel said: "We are really excited. It's the first gay wedding to be held at the hotel.

"We've got special treats for the table and gifts to give out and we'll be having fireworks at the end of the evening."

The couple, of Staples Close, met 13 years ago while working in Avonmouth. They now work as optical technicians for Essilor in Thornbury.

Although the wedding has two brides there will be no veils or dresses in sight as Michelle will be donning a morning suit and Mel is planning to wear an ivory trouser suit.

The brides' families are over the moon about the wedding. Mel said: "They are really looking forward to it. I don't know who's more excited, them or us."

Forty-one guests will be watching the commitment ceremony before another 64 guests descend on the venue to raise a glass with the happy couple.

Mel will be taking on Michelle's family name and the newlyweds will leave the venue as Mrs Michelle Miles and Mrs Mel Bryant-Miles.

The couple are jetting off to Gran Canaria for their honeymoon.

Since the Civil Partnership Act came into force in December 2005, there have been 70 gay weddings in North Somerset, including five so far this year.
