Chris’s Coffee Club PDF Print E-mail

A social gathering. Originally we met every Thursday, at the founder’s home in Knowle, Bristol. We have a core group of regular members and many occasional members. As well as the coffee evening, we arrange trips out, including Theatre, Cinema, Holidays and weekends away. Also visits to gardens and homes, often National Trust properties, and Sunday lunches, in the area. Our main area has always been Bristol / Bath / Weston-super-mare / Clevedon. We welcome people, and visitors to Somerset, from anywhere. There are no joining fees, and we attract an older age group, 35-70 years, but again, all ages are welcome. Today, the founder has retired from hosting, due to ill health, and the coffee evenings are now twice a month, once in Bristol and once in Weston-super-Mare. The Bristol location is in Redland, and Weston varies, as members take turn to host. Usually, Bristol is the first Thursday of the month and Weston-super-Mare, the third Thursday. This can sometimes change. May will be the second Thursday, for example, due to the Weekend away, as advised below.

Lately, theatre trips have included Bath, Bristol, Weston, London, and Cardiff. Outings have been as close as weekends in Manchester, Bournemouth and Torquay, and abroad to Skiathos, Dublin and New York. Mayday weekend we had 12 members going to Berlin. Recently we had a joint outing with Gay West, to Frankie Howerd’s house, and made the Weston Mercury. We often have bowling evenings run jointly with Gay West. We have an annual summer ball, with a fancy dress theme, and also a summer BBQ. Many members have dogs, and this year we are arranging our first pet friendly holiday, to Cornwall where we have hired a group of cottages which allow dogs. This will be for a week in July. We produce a newsletter every two months, and within that, an events sheet. We also send the newsletter by email if requested.
